Jesus was human

Do you ever feel the need to appear like you have it all together?

Good news – you don't have to!

Jesus modeled this for us when He prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, right before His trial and death. He prayed in Luke 22:42 (NLT), “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”

Jesus felt the weight of what was before Him including emotions of fear and anxiety, like many of us experience today! He asked God to take away His suffering, but ultimately wanted God’s will to be done regardless of His suffering.

He didn’t pull the, “I’m perfect Jesus - I'm fine” card while praying in the Garden. He pulled the “I’m human” card, beautifully showing us that fear and faith can co-exist.

I don’t know about you, but I connect with Jesus’ response on a deep level.

As we navigate unique stresses that can leave our hearts and minds tangled, we have the freedom to experience fear and faith at the same time. We are human, just like Jesus. And, we have the choice to persevere and submit to God’s will out of love, just like Jesus.

Friend, I hope and pray this encourages you to look at the similarities between you and Jesus; to release the temptation to forge perfection, feel what you need to feel this season, then rely on the Lord to give you strength.

You can be brave and scared at the same time!

When you think about Jesus, what pieces of His humanity do you connect with most?
